1989 Ford Probe

2.2 L4 N/A (Mazda FZ6)

Auction car purchased as a non-runner, sat since 2006.

Had no fuel pressure (fuel pump was toast). After replacing fuel pump, pressure restored (50psi).

Now there's a faucet (spraying) sound at the fuel rail with either KOER or KOEO. I assumed stuck open injector. Removed all 4 injectors and cleaned them. They all open and close with 9 volts applied, and appear to have a decent spray pattern.

Reassembled everything with new o rings. No visual leaks anywhere.

Just that spraying sound.

Removed spark plugs which all seemed foul. Bore scoped all cylinders through spark plug holes. Pistons 1 & 4 are nasty, oily looking and wet. Pistons 2 & 3 are bone dry and clean.

Ideas?

Is the fuel pump running all the time koeo? Probably not related to your issue, but peculiar...

Any coolant loss? Two clean cylinders next to each other can be bad news...

I'm thinking along the same line as Noah.

I see. Possible head gasket failure between two and three? They are indeed squeaky clean. There should be at least some carbon deposits on there or something.

I'll verify the fuel pump on KOEO ..that is weird.
