My Neighbor has a 1995 GMC Sonoma with a 2.2L engine.
His check engine light came on when the engine started running really
rough and finally stopped running. Engine would try to start and then die.
The DLC is the OBDll style. When I connected my scan tool it said that it could not
connect to the vehicle. I looked at the pins in the DLC and there were only 4 pins.
Does anybody know what kind of diagnostic system is in this truck and what do I need to be
able to get to the PID's and the trouble codes?
Turned out the truck had a bad fuel pump.
Thanks for any help.
Dennis
the OBDII software that you're using came out in 1996. OBDI was from 1991 - 1995. An adapter is available to be able to scan an OBDI system with a OBDII scanner. OBDI was mostly for emissions control related diagnosis.

Being wrong doesn't bother me, it's being right and not understanding why that does
Thanks for your reply.
OBDII has a 16 pin DLC and OBDI has 8 pins correct me if I'm wrong.
If you look inside the DLC it only has 4 pins and has the shape of an OBDII DLC.
If I can get an adaptor will I be able to get any PID's or just the trouble codes?
Thanks again,
Dennis
