I have a 2016 Ram 5500 with a Cummins 6.7. Pulled a code for a NOX sensor “A” circuit out of range. Test procedure is to unplug sensor at its module and measure voltage from signal wire to ground. If readings are within 1 volt of source voltage, then replace sensor “A”. Simple test, I will admit however, I have had similar codes on 3 other sim8lar trucks in the last year, and have replaced 2 already at $500 a pop! There is a core on these sensors, which I assume is to refurbish or recycle.
My question is this. Is there an effective way to clean the sensor, assuming it’s not a circuit board problem, and reuse the part or am I destined to bear the $500 cost every time these codes pop up? If cleaning the carbon from the sensor works, then I will make it part of a PM service as all of the trucks seem to have theses codes pop up around 100-150k miles.
Has anyone tried cleaning and reinstall? Does it work? What procedure and product do you use to clean? Love the trucks, tired of the constant emission issues!
