I'm working on a 2011 GMC 1500. The brake lights stay on. I have code co455 and co 161 if you push on brake pedal the brake light go off. With the plug to the brake light switch disconnected I have power in cruise/etc/tcc brake signal wire not sure where to go from here

See if voltage on 4 wires to Stop Lamp Switch (Top of Brake Pedal Assembly) is correct. Pink wire need car running I believe to have voltage.

Brakes not depressed:

org/wht - 12v
ppl - 12v
pink - 12V
lt blu/wht - 0v

Brakes depressed:

org/wht - 12v ref
ppl - 0v
pink - 12v
lt blu/wht - 12v

Does it change when pedal is pressed? What is voltage with switch disconnected?

edit: okay this was already answered in first post, sorry.

Take reading on this wire again when you disconnect harness from BCM. Connector is labelled X5. Possible this wire might be shorted to power, or maybe coming from BCM.

Nearly all brake light switches these days are Hall Effect sensors and have two separate circuits as the throttle pedal sensors each circuit eorking the opposite sense as a failsafe i.e. one circuit is N.O. the other N.C. in the rest position. As with ABS speed sensors the clearance between the switch and the moving part is ultra critical, even if the switch is slightly loose on its mounting it can cause an issue.
