Viewed a 2008 (I believe) ford focus with an intermittent stall issue. Customer says it would happen after a work day heading home car would go completely dead after the generic warning symbol chimes. This would happen a few seconds/short distance from start.

Car is parked in open car park, battery and alt tested good, no codes, no other drivability issues and information screen went black long before. It has done it once in the morning.

It sounds like immobilizer but that's a stretch seeing it actually starts.

My approach is to park it in the sun for some hours, drive it (hopefully it stalls), observe PATS lights and if shifting it in P/N or cycling keys returns power.

I've had a focus do a similar thing. The other fault the same car had was the electronic power steering warning would light. The fix for that one was a battery. At low speeds the alternator would basically not be working and the battery voltage would drop too low. The battery tested not perfect but ok too. But definitely fixed it.
That was on a 2.0 litre petrol. Not sure what your focus has but would imagine they're all similar. The same motor as a Mazda 3.

I had an alarm issue many moons ago on a different Ford as with matt.white a battery with no other symptoms. Car is falls in right age range for a battery cell failure.

Recreated symptoms and got a pending code of p2135. The description by the customer was misleading. The car didn't stall but went into limp mode, ignoring the pedal input. I found a 12v feed, 12v signal, 5v bias and 3 gnds.

The three grounds thing is kinda interesting, what were you using to check these circuits? I could see the TPS sensor ground and the two signal wires all reading ground if the throttle was unplugged.

Anyway, I think the code description for P2135 is a TPS correlation error? Maybe dual trace both signals and see if you can catch it glitching.

Used a uscope but I was can of hurried in the diagnosis. Didn't get to double check as I would've wanted. Yes it's a correlation code.
