After some help with an ongoing intermittent fault on a 2013 mini (n16 engine) where it will set a plausibility code for the upstream o2 sensor. The code is 002AC2 which BMW cross references to P2196- which is sensor too rich. The only fault description i get for this code is “too lean after the cat” the service information we get is poor for this engine. There is no window for what the ecu is looking for to set the code.
i work for the main dealer too!
It can sometimes take 4-6 weeks for this code to set and even then the fault counter rarely goes above 3.
the freeze frame data records a voltage of 1.33 for the first time it set and 1.37 for the last. As this is a 5 wire Bosch sensor I’m assuming it’s taken from the measuring cell. It’s frustrating because I can’t get the car to play up when I have it. I believe the problem to stem from burning oil caused by worn valve stem seals but when I have the car and test the emissions, it runs perfectly and won’t play up!
any help will be great.
unfortunately the customer is going to part ex the car in as it’s uneconomical to carry on spending money on it but it may mean I can play around with it in the workshop before it’s sold on!
