I've had this TDI about a month or two and it's been great up until now. One day while driving, the low oil pressure warning came on. The warning went away but the level was actually low. A week later it came on again but disappeared after a second. Then a few days after that it popped up again (this was yesterday, Monday 9/. The previous owner said the oil pressure sensor was replaced a few thousand miles ago so I'd be surprised if it was that.
I did some research in groups/YouTube and a clogged pick up seems like a common issue so I thought about dropping the pan. but surely there's a more technical way to diag it instead of just exploring. I've worked on a lot of cars but this is my first diesel so I'm hesitant to just start tearing into it. What would ScannerDanner do? I'm about to get a day pass to erWIN VW so I know what I'm doing. This is also my first VW.
I'm not familiar with VW engines or diesel, but don't discount the oil pressure sensor just because it's "new". There's a lot of low quality parts out there. They may have changed the oil level sensor and not the pressure sensor (if equipped). An oil change with a quality filter would be at the top of my list.
The next thing I would do is familiarize myself with the system. Is it really a pressure sensor that measures actual pressure, or a switch that opens/closes at a certain pressure threshold? What is the oil pressure spec for this engine, and then if feasible, take a pressure measurement with a gauge.
