08 Tahoe Hybrid oil pump was created by Purpleheart91
I have a 2008 Tahoe Hybrid with the 6.0L vortec LFA engine VIN code 5. It has about 130,000 miles on it and I am replacing the timing set. Since this is my wife’s vehicle, I’m also replacing many parts that commonly wear out while I have the front timing cover and oil pan removed. After removing the original oil pump and pick up tube, I disassembled the oil pump to check for wear and found, what I would consider, moderate wear (typical for 130,000 miles) and made the decision to replace it. The issue I have run into is finding a replacement oil pump or any kind of “work around” to use an oil pump from another application but after LOTS of research and looking I have found that this particular oil pump is no longer available from anyone and, as far as I can tell, there is no alternate oil pump that will work for my wife’s vehicle.
the GM part number is 12625823
It is a vane type, variable displacement oil pump that was designed and used with the hybrid vehicle and the “typical” gear displacement type of oil pump made for non-hybrid versions of that vehicle can not be used. The GM 12625823 oil pump was only used on the hybrid version for the year 2008. The 2009 hybrid version of the Tahoe uses a slightly different oil pump of the same design but cannot be interchanged with the 2008 part. Not to mention that oil pump is also not available. Starting in 2010 the hybrid Tahoe went to a solenoid controlled variable displacement oil pump which is much larger and has the solenoid built into the pump with a connector that goes through the timing cover so that’s not a viable alternative. I even contacted Melling to see if they have an aftermarket option for this oil pump and they do not. They have oil pumps for the 08 Tahoe but as soon as you specify that it’s the RPO code LFA engine / VIN engine code 5, they do not make anything that would work.
I know I can put the engine back together with the old, original oil pump but then it’s on borrowed time. My obvious choice would be trade it in or sell it for parts but it just had the hybrid battery pack and hybrid controller replaced in the past year and a half and everything else is in very good condition. It’s been a very good vehicle and unfortunately, I’ve found myself in the same situation many mechanics find themselves in, my wife loves the truck and doesn’t want to get rid of it. Any helpful suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am putting this in the repair help forum but if it might fit better in some other forum, I’ll gladly repost it there.

Thank you for the link, I put in the order right away. It says it was a weekend order and will be processed on Monday, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I have put in orders at several different places over the past month but each time I have gotten a text or call saying they don’t have it, their inventory was not up to date and they can’t get it so they cancel my order and refund my money. Hopefully, that won’t happen this time but I’m not even telling my wife yet because I don’t want to get her hopes up. Either way, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to find one for me and I’ll update this post to let you know whether I get the pump or not.

Our records indicate that delivery is taking longer than we expected. We're working with our fulfillment partners to remedy that, but wanted to keep you informed.
We'll reach out within one business day to update you on the progress of your order. We'll also expedite shipping, where possible and as necessary, to get your order back on track.

Thank you.
I did call their office yesterday and was told they were working with one of their fulfillment partners to fill the order and as soon as it gets shipped, I will get a shipping confirmation and tracking number.
The good news is I just received an update and have a tracking number so it is on its way. When I get the pump and verify it is the correct pump, then I’ll tell my wife I found one. I’ll also post the end result here.
Thanks again for the lead and taking time to help.

Well, I know I’m just expecting the worse given how things have gone with this oil pump, but I’m starting to get nervous. The tracking number has been active for two days now and so far it still says they have yet to receive the package. I really hope this one actually exists and will get to me but I’ll keep the post updated.

Damn, now when I search that sight for that part number, it says out of stock. I have a bad feeling that this is going to be another cancellation and refund.
