Based on experience with UK Fords of this era and that Ford did things much the same way in all markets for decades then it is possible the circuit isn't fused, or there are just two fuses. Is it a manual or automatic ? Either way check wire colour at the rear lights and look for it on the steering column switch or gear box.

Thanks Andy, it's an auto, I found the two thin black wires going to the switch in front and powered one up and got reverse lights - the other one goes to a 3 way junction and disappears into the harness.
When I powered the first plug I thought it was, the starter cranked - not too safe I suppose

No 12v supply at the switch key on ?
No other ignition switched items not working ?
This was the only Ford wiring diagram of that era I could find that included back-up lights not easy to follow but it gives you the wiring colours.

Thanks very much for the effort Andy, that's very helpful. I only saw two fuses on the back of that switch but I might have to get my head deeper in there and use the mirror as well
