I have a 2004 VW Jetta and the car stopped going into reverse I did some online research and most of what I found said it was the tcm. I set the tcm to be repair and now that the tcm is installed I get a U0101 fault. I did find most of the grounds and checked and cleaned them. I can start the car just fine but there is no selector display on the dash. Also when putting it in and gear it trys to go forward what's my next step

I'd check the fuses as well - to make sure your TCM has power. The next step is to get a pinout of the module and start checking wires. The CAN communication wires are twisted together - hopefully someone can provide the relevant information so you can check them for communication signals.

Getting involved in discussions because I have a lot to learn still.

Were all inputs and outputs verified and proper power and ground I was wondering why tcm was replaced and if there were any inputs from tcm that were not working was ecm communicating with tcm

The tcm board had corroded pins and cracked solder how ever that didn't solve the problem the car still only trys to go forward in all gears

I know These cars "good", but only the european Versions. If you have all Power + GND's, CAN signals (scoped ok), you have 99% a faulty TCM. Have you got a refubished unit or your original repaired?
I can provide you the wiring diagrams if you want, but it's nearly clear for me that your TCM is faulty..
