False positive OBD2 codes on hand held scanners

Received error codes for O2 sensor heaters and cruise control. This 1999 Saturn sl2 has single wire O2 sensors up and down stream and does not have cruise control... Obviously all vehicle specific error codes are not totally reliable, so why throw the error?

Do you recall what the codes were, specifically? I've run into similar issues with other scanners, and their internally programmed code definitions. You can also have some codes from those early OBD2 days that have multiple definitions. :silly: Like the P0571 Cruise Control/Brake Switch 'A' Circuit Malfunction.

Did you also get the common P1624 Snap Shot Data Stored?

Quite a lot of vehicles return spurious codes in manufacturer mode, the sources scantool programmers get their data from isn't always reliable.

The small blue ones labeled ELM327 work okay, avoid the big bulky ones, most type are a loose fit in the socket but work more reliably if used with an OBD II extension or splitter cable.

OBDLink ones are the very best but $$
None of them will read airbag or ABS systems only power train.
The software App used is critical most Android users use Torque which looks great but is tedious to use for diagnostics. For Android look in the Google App store for the app that is now called inCarDoc it is much better for diagnostics.

For Windows in the MS Windows store you will find Car Scanner ELM327 OBD2.
All these software have pro versions for very low cost.

Do you mean BlueDriver? I've never used it, but I've heard great things from others. It's graphing capability seems to be excellent.

Agree with Andy, Torque is garbage. Torque Pro is no better. OBD Auto Doctor is another good alternative.

Do those differ from the definitions the Innova showed you? Because all those sound reasonable for this vehicle.

The downstream sensor isn't heated? The wiring diagram says it should be, anyway. :silly: Not trying to tell you how it is! Just genuinely confused.
