the stall problem ??? hi sir it sounds to me like a maf problem possibly which is what tells your engine the load perameters placed on the e3ngine at any given time such as accelerating or going up a hill there might be a diagnostic process for that truck it is pre obd 2 so that may consist of finding the right plugs under dash or shorting a connector out under dash with paper clip the lights will flash a code and that might give you direction I am kind of a beginner but there is expert advise on this forum the moderators are some of the best try bbb industries for a schematic if you need one on that old of vehicle the reference voltage may be a round 8 volts but I am not sure about that another possible problem is one of your sensor is short to ground which will pull down your whole system it doesn't sound like a fuel delivery problem first thing I woukld do is research how to pull codes from that particular vehicle

Okay, I will need to back up. My truck uses an OBD1 diagnostic but the screen is blank so the plug is not connecting with the ECM. Also, the check engine light does not work. The experts tell me the CE light will not burn out, it is made to last forever. To change the bulb would take several hours as I would need to take the dash out.
Considering the purpose of the check engine light it would be a serious mistake for it not to be a forever bulb.
So now I am down to finding a short in a wire from the ECM to OBD1 plug and light. I have looked. Help finding it would be great.

An expert is someone who knows each time more on each time less, until he finally knows absolutely everything about absolutely nothing.

Especially on OBD1 vehicles bulbs are used instead of leds and yes, bulbs do burn out.
Your problem might well be ignition related, check the plugs and mist the plug wires with water whil the engine is running.
How did this problem develop?

The problem started like this: It sputtered and coughed a couple of times one day then the next day a few more.times, the third day more. It gradually got worse each day until it is now so bad I can't "get by" with adjusting the throttle cable bracket.
I feel confident that the OBD1 reader will work IF I can find the problem with the broken or loose wire first.
