Typically using a vacuum bleeder will pull air out of abs unit if a scanner is not available

Without a scanner, the best option you have is to do a conventional bleed first, then get the ABS to activate a few times on a test drive. Park and bleed again.

I have never had to use a scanner to bleed an ABS module/
Pump. If u gravity/Pump bleed the system and u cant get a decent pedal, there is something else wrong. This body style gm is a pain somtimes to get a decent pedal. Here is my procedure. Fill the resovour, turn the key on make sure the brake light isn't on. If the prop valve is tripped the light will be on. If it's on slam the pedal like ur mad at it several times. if that didn't work open all the breeders a and slam it again. You may have to do several tricks to get the prop valve to center. Once the light is out (do not touch the brake pedal at this point). Take the cap off the master, make sure it's full and open the right rear bleeder. Go take a 5 min break. through gravity bleeding u should have a decent drip coming from the bleeder with no bubbles . If u do close it and continue to gravity bleed the left rear, right front then left front. (Dont touch the pedal untill all 4 have been gravity bled) . If you don't have any fluid coming from the right rear bleeder, make sure the resivour is full keep the right rear bleeder open and very slowly pump the pedal up and down. Count to 5 on the way down and on the way up. Do this 10 to 15 times, or untill u get a squirt of fluid from every pump. When get a squirt, continue gravity bleeding the remaining bleeders in order. (Right rear, left rear, right front then left front) if u still can't get any fluid, open a line at the ABS pump heading to the rear. Hit the pedal and see if u have fluid. From this point u will have to open lines and find out where u do and don't have fluid if u have fluid at all 4 bleeders consistently with no bubbles. It's bled. (This is where it gets weird with this bodystyle) and you dont have a decent pedal make sure the rear brakes are adjusted right. I put mine too tight. Tight enough to where u can't Spin it a full turn no matter how hard you spin the tire. then drive it 10 miles or so (as long as the pedal seems safe enough, common sence should kick in here) if the pedal still suks. Bleed it all over again. This bodystyle sometimes need to be driven then bled, don't know why. Keep in mind that the pedal on this truck will never feel like a 00 Taurus and they are known to have a crappy pedal that "pushes" on hard stops. I've heard that the prop valves leaks intrernally and causes this. I have never replaced a prop valve to find out as no customer would pay for it.
I have tried to bleed this system with an ABS bleed many times and never had any success. I've been repairing these vehicles for over 20 years.

I didn't want to comment earlier have zero experience of this vehicle, but I have also found road test getting the ABS to activate a few times gets any air out the ABS unit.
Working with ABS systems I tend use any trick in the book to stop fluid draining and air entering --- topping up the reservoir to brim and sealing it over with cling film secured with a rubber band is my favorite and I always use a pressure bleeder. So I haven't had any issues...... so far :-)
