2007 Dodge Nitro was created by k4chevy383
Hello,
I have a dodge nitro 2007 that has been to three shops and still can't find out why on a cold start it cuts out and even dies at times. Now what has been done is new crank and cam sensors new o2 sensors. Still cuts out when cold. But once warm it runs almost fine. What I hear when it cuts out is the egr vacuum like leak and that is by ear. Fuel is right where it is suppose to be can't see any electrical drop outs. My question is have you ever ran into this? and where do I look next?

Which engine do you have in your Nitro? 3.7, 4.0? I figure you'd have mentioned it, but codes stored?

Could you help me out with details about the cutting out/stalling? Does it do it just sitting there idling? Driving down the road? Coming to a stop?

With that year of Nitro, my first thought is low transmission fluid level. This causes the torque converter clutch to stick applied, creating a cut out/stall problem when coming to a stop. The symptom can seem to get better hot because the fluid expands with temperature, raising the fluid level.

If your symptoms match the above, then I'd proceed with checking fluid level. If not, continue diagnosis. Your Nitro likely didn't come with a transmission fluid dipstick. So you'll need to buy one. They're available everywhere - your local auto parts store likely carries them in stock. You'll also need a scanner capable of reading transmission fluid temperature (Global OBD won't) and a fluid level/temperature chart (available on Google). If you don't have access to a scanner, you can guestimate the temperature by allowing the vehicle to sit overnight, take note of the ambient temperature, and check the fluid right after startup.

have you checked for an intake gasket leaking only when cold before it goes into closed loop??

Okay here is what I have It is a 4.0 engine and it does it idling and going down the road while it is cold it's not low on trany fluid. It while idling will cut out and sometimes run ruff like cylinders are missing but once warm it is fine to a point after warm it will go down the road fine and once in a while it will cut out.
As for codes it only kicks the p0300 code but on the scanner it don't show any missing or complete cut outs like I'm having going on.
I would like to know if the egr valve can be causing the cut out cause of being held open to long while cold and in the warm up mode? and can the computer be going bad and causing the whole problem and if so how to test to see if that is what it is?
Thank you for your time.
