long term fuel trims was created by frankiedon
Hi, My name is Frank and I am a newbie. I recently started the Scannerdanner premium and the E-book.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 van 5.2L v-8 and an Innova 16603 scanner. My LTFT is always on Zero. I know that that is not correct, but why?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this.
Frank.

Make sure it's in closed loop, in addition to what JustJuan said. If it's in closed loop with no long term trims, and the short term is switching across zero, then you're just looking at awesome fuel trims.

Hi Tyler. Thanks for prompt response. When I said that the LT was stuck at 0.0 I thought then that the computer was not recording the LT when the ignition was switched off, but after testing again this morning and reading what you said it looks as if I was mistaken. I think the trims were at 0.0 when the engine was switched off.
This morning Wednesday, June 20, 2018, I got a LT at+ 3.9 ST -1.56 o2sens1 at 0.26, rpm 1990. Thanks, Frank.

Excellent trims. B) Were you just trying our your scanner, or was there a performance issue you were chasing?

Hi Tyler I thought I answered your last response about chasing a performance issue but since I haven't heard from you again, It looks as if something went wrong with my last response.
The answer is yes: I owned the van for 13 yrs but only recently learned that these Dodge Ram V-engine have a problem with the plenum gasket. So I ordered the Hughes upgrade kit as recommended by other Dodge owners. Because the plenum is aluminum and the pan is steel they expand at different rates and constantly blow the gasket. So it causes an internal vacuum leak. My van was running rich and idling high with black smoke coming from the tail-pipe. After installing the kit it all changed. So that's it for now. Thanks for listening. Frank.
