Hello guys, working on a 2008 Ford fusion with very rough idle. Didn't have DTCs to begin with so I did a cylinder drop down test. Though not conclusive the customer opted to replace the ignition coils and plugs. In the process we discovered that cylinder 2 was covered in oil so we replaced valve cover gasket. Problem still persists. However now we have a p1408 code. After some research online it seems that the EGR may be clogged. I tried actuation by scanner but no change whatsoever. Do you have flow charts on how to test the EGR position sensor and/or valve on this particular case? Thanks
Which engine do you have in this Fusion? You mentioned oil leaking into the #2 plug tube, so I'm gonna figure you've got the 2.3L.
Did you get this code after running the KOER Self Test? Because the description for this code suggests this is one of those you'll only get after running a self test.
You might be onto something with the EGR, but I'd suggest backing up a bit before going down that path. Specifically, looking at manifold vacuum and fuel trims during the rough idle. If the EGR is stuck open, it'll produce abnormal readings on both.
It is in fact the 3.0l. cylinder 2 being behind the intake manifold. And yes it was a self test with the scanner. I will check the fuel trims again today and will report back to you
