Have a 97 Cutlass in the shop right now. Has some weird issues. Customer complaint is low power. It only acts up hot. Another tech did an induction service on it yesterday, but it was fairly cold out and he couldn't get it to actually up at all. Today it was around 80* and they brought it back because it was acting up. It died on the boss while he pulled it into my bay. I scanned it and there's no codes. When I scoped the IAC wiring, the signal looks like straight trash. Almost like a high frequency AC... If I try to command it with the scan tool, it'll drop below the average 750RPM idle, but won't go above that. If I try to command either fan, it says there's no communication with the ECM. The really weird one is when I command the purge solenoid on, the engine straight dies. This is starting to seem like an ECM issue to me, but I'm not super familiar with these automobiles. Are ECMs common? Any other direction I should go? If you need any other info, please ask. Thanks in advance, guys and gals.

Hey Kbrashler! PCM's can be an issue on these. If you suspect a temperature related problem, you can always try digging the PCM out and hit it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Stick the module in the freezer to cool it back down if needed. You can also try gently twisting or tapping to see if you can reproduce the problem.

Has anyone had luck reproducing the low power complaint?

Thanks for reply, Tyler. As far as I know, they have not. I only had it for about half an hour, and the tech before me couldn't get it to act up at all. The only two things I've seen, drivability wise, was it dying on my boss when he was rolling it into my bay and when I power braked it in my stall, it died when I let off the gas. I believe both those instances were due to the IAC valve having no response/control.
