08 Honda Civic EX AC not working was created by SakeenahMD
Hello everyone
Hey Paul hope all is well. Here to try and get help resolving this diagnostics issue I'm having with this AC system.
Steps performed:
1- hooked up gauges checked for system charge. OK
2- checked Fuse 36 (10amps). OK
3- checked fuse 20 (7.5 amps). OK
4- checked AC refrigerant transducer. 5v ref good, ground good, signal 1.2v.
5- new AC compressor clutch relay
6- with power to the load side of CC relay both compressor and fans come on.
Compressor equipped with thermal protector (3 wires) and evaporator temp sensor (haven't located it yet).
Waiting for your generous feedback

You have done most of the preliminary testing which checks out.The 8th generation civic has a common culprit in the thermal overload protector switch which is located on the AC compressor housing. There is only one 3 pin connector going to the AC compressor. 2 of those wires go directly to the switch: Pins 1 and 3 (the two outer pins).
The switch should be CLOSED when in normal operating condition and OPEN when the switch has failed or has exceeded a predetermined temperature threshold. With the connector unplugged you may do a continuity test on the two wires.
If the thermal protector checks out then plug the connector back in and back-probe pin 1 BLU or RED/BLK wire. Have a helper turn the AC on, the climate control unit will send a ground signal through pin 1 feeding the thermal protector circuit and come out of pin 3. Pin 3 sends the ground signal to the multiplex (MICU). Let us know what you find and we can go from there.

So if I were to jump those two wires and bypass the thermal switch would it allow the compressor to work? Btw I know it's unorthodox but it's a budget repair

Is your problem that the clutch does not kick on at all? Can u bidirectionally control the clutch via a scan tool?

If the thermal protector switch is indeed at fault, technically you may jump the two wires and bypass the switch.
