Hi ,got this sonata that came with no power steering ,the steering and stability light are on. Car has been to the dealer prior me and they quote a column assembly at 5 000.00$ . No warranty since the mileage at 200k , the codes are C1260, steering angle sensor and C1688, issues with motor driven power steering module MDPS. Found a used column assembly ,everything included ,motor, mdps . Installed the unit ,reprogram the vin try to reset the angle sensor to end up with the same codes, verus and autel were used to reset . The codes are set in the ESP electronic stability program module (abs unit) ,impossible to erase . no dtc in th MDPS . Steering angle data in the mdps stay at 0 and in th ESP at 3261 rotation degrees ,default value! There is a youtube : Hyundai Kia steering angle reset problem , by Phill lambert , aligment instructor , but no clues to reset. Do i need the factory scanner GDS ?? Thank Dan !!!
I believe we may be working on the exact same vehicle. Is this P.B.? It is now at 220 000 km, still the same. I worked on it 6 months ago.
Trying a few morre things, GDS was tried on this one and steering angle sensor relearn didn't take.
So the guy FINALLY went for a new column? In February I told him I needed the original column and parts for testing and programming and he didn't come back. Last week He came back and I went through the entire CAN bus, fixed a splice pack RH dash behind glove box (removed 1/2 of dash), disconnected some crappy surveillance cameras hooked up to OBD2 port wires and FINALLY got the steering angle sensor relearn to function. At THAT point I got a code for shorted motor. It appears both original and salvage column parts had the same defect. He was upset at paying for a non-fix but he didn't want to pay 3000$ for a new column.
Did he really buy a new column? If so, I will tell him to keep going elsewhere next time. I'm pissed I didn't make $$$ on the column job.
