NO CRUISE CONTROL, SPEEDOMETER, OR ODOMETER FUNCTION was created by Signstosee
Hey Cousins...ha ha...Were all in the Family of Car Repair, I think it's Genetic. So Family, Need Your Brains......
Problem.
Back in 1999 I purchased new a 1999 GMC SIERRA 4X4 SPORT SIDE SLE.
Currently..... THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED AT 209032.00.
ONE DAY, SUDDEN ONSET= NO SPEEDOMETER, NO ODOMETER, TRIP METER, THEY DISPLAY, BUT DON'T READ FORWARD, NO CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTION, HOWEVER THE CRUISE INDICATOR WILL FLASH ON IF YOU PUSH THE TURN SIGNAL ACTIVATION SWITCH.
I HAVE AC VOLTAGE AT THE PIN FROM THE VSS ON THE CRUISE CONTROL PER THE TROUBLESHOOTING. I HAVE REPLACED THE VSS ON THE TAIL SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER CASE.
I HAVE DISASSEMBLED THE ENTIRE DASH, LOOKING FOR THAT OPEN CIRCUIT, YOU KNOW LIKE FROM WHEN A MOUSE EATS YOUR WIRE(S)
Secondary quirky things; My GPS Pioneer high end APP Radio also stopped some of the functions about the same time that I recall.
Me, I have 100 hours trying to diagnose, the dealership GM has had it twice for 3 months, no forward movement, they didn't physically work on it, it just sat in the stall.
No trouble codes, however, since it's been in the GM Shop, it's shows ABS AND PARKING BRAKE ON THE CLUSTER. I will reset the OBDII.
I have cleaned almost every plug in the loom, the PCM & BCM Plugs, I get active signal from them on the wires per the Wire Charts. I have cleaned P100 plug under the Under hood Fuse Station, not there.
*****I purchased a used from an Identical vehicle, the PCM, Speedo-Cluster and BCM, (body control module) from a Wreck. That didn't go anywhere or fix anything.
***** Anybody know where I can send this extra PCM, BCM, Cluster and have it Flashed to my VIN?****
One person thought it may have been HIT BY LIGHTNING: IF THIS IS WOULD BE TRUE, THEN ALL THE REST OF THE TRUCK FUNCTIONS wouldn't function I'm thinking. The original PCM, again show no problem(s)
So, there it is; I have paid on the ANSWER WEBSITE, A GM TROUBLESHOOTER, he furnished me the Schematics and voltages...that was several months ago.
I offer REWARD TO THE GENIUS THAT CAN ASSIST ME WITH THE FIX.It's more about I like everything working. When I was the Aircraft Mechanic, you get this ingrained thing, everything has to WORK or people might die. I know my truck is not a plane, but, I really like my truck, it's like that perfect pair of slippers. It's been everywhere in my life and never treated bad, unlike the past ex-wives that I divorced.
My career was a Paramedic for 25 years, this is now my Patient, It's not DEAD On Arrival. It's my LAST VEHICLE, still has much life in it and I still Drive it,
nothing is intermittent, the SpeedoFault and Cruise Fault stays not functional as described above.
So, there it is......I'll rewire the truck if need be...except....GM says the Truck is OLD. Funny. Sure are a lot of 30's and 40's Chevy's going down the road.

Do you have a scan tool you can use? It would be nice to know if the speed signal is making it to any modules.
Here's a video covering the testing of a VRS sensor, like the one in your truck.
Chapter 21 material if you're interested in checking out the rest of the play list.
Just on a whim, have you disconnected the aftermarket stereo? I glanced at the circuit last night and it looks like the speed signal gets fed to the factory stereo, and you said your stereo started acting up around the same time speedometer quit...

Does the drive shaft move up and down in the transfer case? I've had a bunch of these Chevy that the gap is to large from the bushing being worn out in the tcase. I have not tried this but you could probably pull the speed sensor and chuck something fancy in a drill and spin it near the tip of the speed sensor and have an assistant see if the Speedo registers? Otherwise I've also seen where someone had changed a transmission and plugged the speed sensor jumper harness into the wrong plug but it didn't sound like any work was done immediately prior to this problem starting . Checking radio wiring as previously mentioned is also a good idea this must have had a speed volume control on factory radio...
