Hi all - I am totally miffed on this car. 2009 Suzuki SX4 automatic 4WD with ESP and 150K. Have had this car for about a month. Here's my story:
Car starts right up, but the tach is dead and the trans won't auto shift. Needle bounces on crank but dies as soon as it starts. Code P0340 cam sensor comes up. My scan tool reports live rpm but the tach is dead. Cancel the code with my scan tool and the tach comes to life and the trans shifts and the car runs great. Ignition timing advances with accel after I cancel the code. I've been driving the car every day by keeping the scan tool in the car and cancelling the code every time I start the car. Kind of a PITA. I replaced the cam sensor, changed nothing. Checked 12V, 5V and ground to the cam sensor, all in place. Took the valve cover off and marked the crank pulley and found the timing chain is right on target. I've tried a different PCM, BCM, and ABS module (all from a local reputable junk yard) and none of them changed anything. I've scoped the cmp and ckp signals with my O-scope right at the PCM and the pattern matches what's in the book exactly. I can't figure out what is causing the cam code. I have inspected wiring all over this car till my eyes were bulging. This car is clean and no wiring harnesses have been hacked into. Every ground I can find is clean and tight. Battery and charging system are both in spec. I was a mechanic back in the 80's and wrote car repair manuals after that. I've been out of the industry for over 20 years but I know my way around cars. Not an expert on Suzuki but, I had a friend who had a similar issue with her F150, turns out the dash cluster had a short and it caused havoc, she had it sent out for repair, and it fixed her issue. I'm assuming yours is all electronic as well as it's a 2009. Maybe a find another to swap out and test it??

I would try except for the fact that everything on the dash works perfectly once i clear the code.

TS for unique timing conditions.
Susuki has a ECM reflash for this.
Dealer may be the best bet in this case.

Thanks for the response. I called the dealer and gave my VIN. The nice service adviser looked it up said there was no recalls or TSB's for this car related to timing and ECU issues. Do you any specific info on that TSB?

If no other remedy could try the ECM reflash.
Maybe another dealer or the manufacturer would recognize the TSB 10 10271R1
The TSB is 2010-2013 so recall wouldn't apply but may be worth a try.
