Intermittent no start holden astra diesel was created by AlphaMM

Hi guys,
Customer is complaining about an intermittent no start in the morning.

Some one has added a ground wire from the battery direct to the alrernator . Not actually sure why the done it.

Found that cable melted from the start till its end.

Customer said when it wasn't starting that cable was smoking.

Wondering what can cause such thing?
