So I had a customer bring me his ‘08 Impreza WRX after he was on a highway trip when it died. Said he was doing about 80 mph and it shut down on him. Cranks and bucks wanting to start but just won’t finish the job. I have spark, fuel, CKP sensor has signal and but CMP only has signal at initial turn of the key and then it loses its signal. All confirmed via scan tool. No tach on the dash but st reads 140 rpm. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys and gals I’m sure

Are you maintaining power and ground when you lose the signal?
You are supposed to have 2 cam sensors according the the wiring diagram that I am using. Are they both acting up? Do you have good signal wire integrity?

Agreed I should have two cam sensors scan to only shows crankshaft and one cam sensor. As far as I know Power and ground is fine. As far as I can tell rather, it’s just weird how the signal drops off after about two turns of the engine. Initially, I was thinking no compression possible cylinder dead but multiple videos. I’ve watched people had similar issues when cranking the car sound the same just sounds hollow like a toy car. No I tried to assume as little as possible.

You can go to the sensors and check them. If you have good spark and injection pulse, the inputs are probably fine. Are you losing spark and injection pulse with the cam signal loss? Did you check compression and timing.
Assuming is never a good thing.
