P0174 only

P0174 only was created by Huckleberry
2001 ford 7700 5.4 p0174 code. Smoke tested, repaired vac lines, saw some smoke coming out out from under mushroom top of egr, i replaced it.Replaced pvc and rubber piece behind the intake for good measure. I cleared the code, drove for about 150 miles, checked for codes again, p0174 was pending. Needed to have it inspected for registration. Took it in, and it passed. Check engine lite came back on after driving bout another 50 miles.
I checked freeze frame data. under load was around 75, idle bout 680, short and long term fuel trims, bank 1, -2 to +5. Bank 2 fuel trims, short term +4 apprx. long term +29. Checked the long term while driving, would be around +19 to+21. Haven't replaced fuel filter, figured if it was it, it would throw the p0171 also.
So can anyone suggest anything else?

OK, just did a smoke test again. Found smoke coming out around the piece that the pvc elbow attaches to behind the throttle body, don't know what it is. Could this be the culprit?

If ignorance is blessed, i got to be happy!!!1

Did you reset the kam? I assume you cleared code and it returned after repairs? What are your maf readings at idle ?

Ok idle seems a little low next we need to do a wide open throttle run in 1st gear and see what its peak is . Also if you can get load on that same run and b1s1 and b2s1 oxygen sensor make sure they go full rich approx 800mv the whole time your foot is on the floor.

Also I just noticed you had a leak at the pcv elbow did you repair this? Any leaks will cause lean codes.

Did a smoke test a couple weeks ago, found a couple leaks.Things i've changed: fuel filter, pcv, egr( had smoke coming out from under the mushroom lookin cap), repaired some vacuum lines, replaced boot on back side of throttle body.
Yesterday did another smoke test, had smoke coming out of the IAC where the lil round piece is on the side of it.
By the way, thanks for your help.

Ok maf is right on oxygen sensors look good and suggest were not lacking fuel, however are short term fuel trims say were lean on both banks at that rpm but are long term hasn't compensated for it yet. What was the freeze frame for the code was it at idle rpm or driving hot or cold? Does this engine have manifold/exhaust leaks?

Ok, after further inspection, no change. long fuel trim b2 +29.7. Smoked again, have some smoke coming from back of throttle body still, in the area of the pvc elbow and iac. Can't tell which one is leaking, or even if they are. I have replaced both. Could there be a leak back there from throttle body? Is there a port from intake manifold underneath that area? I've looked and can't tell without removing a some things. I also did the water test there with no results. Also yesterday i had a 442 code pending(evap) UGH!

I just confirmed the iac is leaking when i smoked it. Is it suppose to? It's new.

Where is the iac leaking back to the intake tube or out of the body itself ?

Roughly what temperature was it in your area at the time of your wide open throttle run ? Does this truck have a exhaust leak (common for studs to break) does this truck have a misfire? May pull the plugs on bank 2 and see what they look like. Does your scan tool do injector pressure drop testing? Does the truck lack power ?

Temp probaly in the 50"s. As for as the exhaust leak,? Can't hear a leak as well as sprayed lil soap and water at the joint. However, the muffler has a small hole in it, cause i notice after starting and letting it idle a lil while, seems to have an abnormal amount of condensation coming out from the exhaust pipe and that small hole. I can feel a slight hiccup in the idle. Doesn't lack power. My scan tool doesn't have the injector testing feature. I'll pull plugs tomorrow. Overall truck runs great, it's just that long term fuel trim is bugging the crap out of me.

Do you have a way to graph the recorded day with your scan tool? It is a lot easier to read that way.

No, but got my hands on a stethoscope, and think i found the problem. Air leak back side of throttle body. When i ran a smoke test , had smoke coming from that area, replaced pvc elbow and iac and still had smoke coming out. Ran the scope along the seam of throttle body and intake, and could hear what sounds like air.Replacing gasket today.
