Extended crank engine hot was created by autojoe
2008 Buick Lucerne 3.8 engine. Runs great under load. Engine hot shut off try to start extended crank for several seconds and each time gets longer until no start.....gas gauge flutters.... If spray carb cleaner into intake during no start it does nothing. Before this had a no start condition and replaced ignition module and a coil pack and crank sensor and harmonic balancer with 3x and 18x plates. Now has this starting problem engine hot. Not my vehicle. Trying to help someone out. Think it has anything to do with the 3x or 18x plates on new harmonic balancer? They have a lip on upper edge. Any ideas would be appreciated. Think maybe scoping 3x and 18x signals to icm and output from icm to pcm during no start?

What are the fuel trims and O2 sensor activity like when the engine is warm ?
Extended cranks tended be fuel related, in this case extended crank when warm would make me look towards fuel bleeding into the inlet when the engine is stopped.

Fuel pressure holds steady with no drop in pressure. During no start spraying carb cleaner does not try to start. No codes. Don't know about trims.

Because it doesn't try to start on carb cleaner, I gotta figure there's no spark. Being bypass ignition and all, I'd definitely start by scoping the 3X and 18X signals at the ICM during the no start.
I wouldn't think it could be the balancer sensor wheels, otherwise it'd have this problem all the time.
But I could be wrong there! Just based on the symptoms, I think I'd be more suspicious of the ICM itself.
