07 Ford escape 3.0 automatic P0732 was created by Dan17059
I don't to often take on transmission issues but this time I did. Vehicle is an 07 ford escape with a 3.0 engine. 4wheel drive automatic. Code stored is a P0732 (gear 2 incorrect ratio) Driving it, it slips very badly in second, and customer states it doesn't shift right into 4th either. Quick look at fluid level looks good and doesn't smell or appear burnt. I have checked the wiring to the solenoids right at the transmission. I have 12 v on the control side when solenoid is commanded off, and a good ground when commanded on. Is that enough to say the solenoids are good? I ask because with KOEO, there's a fairly loud buzzing/humming from the transmission. When turning the solenoids on/off I hear nothing at all besides the constant humming. I'm pretty sure it just has the common broken band, but want to rule out solenoids first. Thanks for any advice!

Hi Dan,
I'm with you. Transmissions are not my strong point...
Seeing 12v on the control wire while off proves that the solenoid is not open electrically, but doesn't mean that it is functioning. You could take a current measurement with an amp clamp around the control wire while you activate the solenoids with the scan tool, and compare the good ones to the suspect one.

I suppose I could give that a shot. I wish I could at least hear some clicking going on...the constant humming coming from the trans with the KOEO kinda worries me. Not sure what that would be. It's definitely the trans because it goes away when I unplug the harness to the trans. Guess I'll see what the current looks like tomorrow.

Transmissions are not my strong point either but I would suspect chunks in the valve body holding a valve from moving causing it to buzz I would drop pan and look for chunks in pan and easy to inspect valves if no chunks are found in pan , I suspect trans is due for a rebuild though (maybe try to save fluid to put back in so if your customer doesn't want to spring for rebuild they can retrieve car without spending 100 on new fluid to go to waste...)

Yeah, if it doesn't have second or forth, then I think you're definitely looking at a snapped 2-4 band. :( No P0750 or P0753? I'd say do the current testing Noah suggested, then suggest internal repairs OR assembly replacement.

I'm told that these bands can be replaced with the trans still in the vehicle, believe it or not. It consists of lowering the engine/trans down low enough to get the pump out the drivers wheel well. There's YouTube videos out showing the procedure. Crazy, but it beats the heck out of pulling the transmission completely. :cheer:
