22R 1985 Toyota pickup no starter and then no spark from coil was created by 22rightnow
OK Hello,
Have a 1985 Toyota pickup, 22R engine, 250,000 miles, standard transmission and this year did not have a neutral safety switch. It was running great getting 26 m/p/g. Then one day no starter noise when i turned the key. had 12 volts to the "S" terminal, took starter out tested it at Auto zone tested good, put it back in tried it- truck started right up. ran it around the block. shut it off tried to start it again-Nothing. Got it to turn over but then I had no spark from coil. Now I have no starter again. Ignition switch with wires is new. pickup coil tested in range. Only 2 relays on this truck: one marked CMH and fuel the other marked Head. The dealer does not know which is for the starter or if CMH is for Control Module. can't get to work can't complete other critical duties and so frustrated i can't think straight. Need help ASAP. Have critical responsibilities. Thanks
Joseph

You must check for voltage at terminal S with the wire connected to the starter, this will tell you if the wire can handle the load. Also check if the block and starter are properly grounded by measuring voltage between block and battery negative, should be near zero. If not, check condition of the ground strap between the block and body or battery negative. I can’t help with the rest of your question, somebody will surely chime in!
