Hi, I want to share with you unbelievable engine failure that i witnessed. The connecting rod of the first piston broke, it cut the cylinder bloc like nothing, then the oil pan, then the cylinder bloc again, then the starter. The rod cut everything in his way. The most amazing thing that the engine kept running, until the drive cut the engine off.
Has someone witnessed something like this, what can be the cause?

Thats a beauty, had something like it 20years ago with a 2.0 pinto, after the strip down , mine looked like the oil had got too hot and turned to tar, thus blocking the. Oil feed off to conrods 3 and 4 . The rods had friction welded themselves to the crank then ripped the little ends off and destroyed ever thing in its path. The hole in the block was big enough to put your head in..
Rods 1 and 2 got hot but only managed to bend, i still have the rods ,ill see if i can dig it out a post it .
In your case was it molten metal or a clean brake from the little end ?

Lack of lubrication, for one reason or another.......

Clogged oil pick up strainer , low oil, bad bearing......

Usually in these cases the driver just ignores the tell tales warnings, chimes etc.
It is not that rare and I have seen them even restart :-?
