FIXED
Hi guys a customer left his 2003 Hyundai Santa fe in this evening. His complaint being the parking brake/brake fluid level light flickers when driving and sometimes when stationary.I checked the fluid level, unplugged the sensor and the same thing happened, unplugged the parking brake sensor tried it again and the same thing again, read online people saying alternators causing problems like this but usually the battery light flashes also.Would doing the diode test that Paul shows be a good test for this? What other tests would you all recommend?
Thanks again,Richard

Is the lamp shared with the pad wear indicator ? Pad wear circuits are prone to cause similar issues.

The alternator diode pattern test is quick and easy so go ahead and do it.

Hi Andy thanks for replying,I'll find out for sure in the morning but I'm pretty sure this car hasn't wear indicators fitted to it. I did notice that when I applied the handbrake the light brightened up

Scan the abs module and post the codes here.

What size engine is it/ body badge (se, le), I'll look over the wiring for it.

Is the abs light on solid as well? Is it 03 or 07? Now that the light is not flickering does the parking brake still illuminate it brightly (verifying cluster solder integrity) I suspicion a short to ground between cluster and abs unit but could be on parking switch or fluid level switch as well. maybe someone will post the wiring diagram to better understand the circuit, I'm not at the shop today to look 1 up.

Hi sorry it's an 03 don't know where I got 07 at.No there is no problem with the abs light the customer says it came on once a while ago with him but never showed again. Also the handbrake/fluid warning light hasn't played up since I've been working today and is shining bright when applied as it should

Thanks for all your replies, the fix was simple enough the wire from the brake fluid reservoir goes up behind the a.c. pipe where a few wires insulation had rubbed through and shorted.I would have liked to have posted a photo of the area but couldn't seem to master the one I tried earlier of the diode test,I'll keep trying, thanks again
