Hey folks!  Got a brain teaser here.   My father in-law bought a nice little 98 S-10 2wd with a 2.2/auto.  The truck is in really good shape but it has a long crank time some times.  In fact, at certain times, it will crank for 30 seconds or more before it starts.  No codes.  Fuel pressure is 38-40 KOEO.  It does drop off over night but the fuel pressure prime brings it right back up even with the long crank time.  Every time I have tested it, it has good spark (Using calibrated spark tester).  I have scoped the injectors and noticed that they aren't being pulsed sequentially but rather in pairs.  The scope pattern for the crank sensor, cam sensor, and the signal from the ICM to the PCM all look good.  (ICM to PCM on purple and white wire is only 2.5 volts---not sure about that).   He took it to a shop and they put in a new fuel pump and changed the fuel pressure regulator even though it has good fuel pressure.  The truck runs rough for a few seconds after this long crank event, so I pulled the fuel rail and pressurized the fuel system to check for an injector leaking off but none of the injectors were leaking that I could tell.   He bought new injectors anyway and I installed them and it seemed to be ok but a couple of days later back to the long crank time.   The fuel pressure was still normal during this event.  The engine runs good and has plenty of pep when it is running so I'm thinking it's not a mechanical issue.  I used TDS and checked for a reflash for the truck and the PCM software is up to date.   Should the injectors be firing in pairs?   And, could the ignition module have anything to do with this problem even though the spark is good?  Im honestly stumped at this point and in the meantime the dang shifter cable broke!!!   I need some more ideas here!  Please advise!  )

Just an update from this evening:  I noticed that on a cold morning start up the truck smoked or steamed for a very long time even after it cleared up and stopped missing.   Tonight I pressurized the cooling system and pulled the plugs and looked in the cylinders with the endoscope and low and behold cylinder #2 was taking on coolant.   That might not be ALL of the issues with this truck but at least I found SOMETHING!

Sorry to hear, that's bad news. I was going to suggest a skewed coolant temp sensor, but sounds like its going to be more serious than that. Thank you for posting the update
