2008 jeep liberty was created by mike396
starter will engage but won't crank. this is a intermittent problem. starts sometimes and other times no. no codes. changed PCM , Tipm, ignition switch and starter. local shop has no idea. have run grd wires to negative terminal. still not fixed.

Mike, can you please clarify some points for us?
Logically, if the starter is engaging then the engine is cranking. Cranking is just the engine spinning over under the power of the starter.
When the engine continues to run as designed after the starter has cranked the engine, it can be said that the engine has fired.
When someone tells me the starter engages but the engine doesn't crank I picture a loud mechanical "THUNK" followed by nothing.
It might sound like I'm splitting hairs, but it's important to know if this is a crank/no start or no crank/no start to know how to proceed.

Thank you for the clarification.
I would check the condition of the battery, voltage drop at the battery terminals, voltage drop on the heavy battery lead at the starter, voltage drop the engine block, and if all is well, change the starter.
