2012 Nissan Rogue sv fwd jerking was created by melpj06
Hello all, As shown in the Subject I have a 2012 Rogue SV front wheel drive. I was driving along everything was fine and then all the sudden from accelerating at a stop sign it hesitated to move when I pushed the gas pedal and when it did finally move it jerked really bad. I was barely able to pull off into a parking lot because of the almost constant hard jerking. No codes, no warning lights, nothing leading up to this that I can recall. Some history on this car... I had issues last year with the cvt. I believe the code was P0776 or P0774, I cannot remember for sure. But the code was for the step motor, I was told. Well first I was told it needed a new cvt, until I paid the person $1100. then they told me it was just the step motor and they would start with that. I responded to that with, it was a $25 part on amazon and it was an hour job that I could literally do myself. Then all the sudden they say they had to remove the cvt to clean it out because of the metal shaving. I knew they were full of it and bolts that would have been removed were still rusted and untouched. So, I got a trailer went to pick up my car. The valve body was inside on the passenger side floor and parts were gone. (The reverse clutch seal & manual plate) He even took my battery and replaced it with a junk one. He denied having any of the parts and no transmission shop in my area would even look at my car to help me figure out which ones were gone. So I downloaded manuals with detailed photos of every single thing on or near the valve body and I got it going again. it took me 3 tries because after the 1st time when I didnt have reverse, I realized the reverse clutch seal was not there. so repeated everything and put it back together just for it to not shift right and the step motor code was tripped again after just putting new one on. So at that point, I decided to just replace the entire valve body because I did not know if he had it apart and if he did I know he would not have made sure the check balls were correctly pressurized. The car ran fine for a couple weeks then the engine light would come on and when it was on the car would shift erratically upon acceleration. I would erase the code to shut the light off and it would then run fine until it came back on. It was a random thing, sometimes it would come back the same day others it was a week or two. So I decided to replace both the secondary and primary transmission speed sensors. This seemed to solve the problems... It drove good for a month no codes no acting up, then I return from vacation and 2 days later. I was accelerating after stopping at a stop sign and all the sudden it didnt want to move when I pushed the gas. When it did finally move after about 15-20 seconds it started jerking real badly. I went to tow my car home a few days later. A friend with a truck was going to pull it with a tow strap. We get it hooked up and I had it in neutral while he pulled with his truck. Even in neutral the car was jerking real bad nonstop. So I left it and ended up putting it up on a trailer to move it. I was told that it was the front axle/half shaft and others say it is the transmission. When I start the car it idles fine, and when I go through each gear it shifts perfectly as it should. So Im not convinced its the cvt, but Im also not certified. So last weak, I replaced both front axle/half shaft, all 4 tie rods, both sway bar links, both lower control arms with ball joints, both front wheel hub assemblies, and I have the upstream and downstream O2 sensors but i need to change them yet. after all that, minus O2 sensors, it is still not accelerating at first when I push the gas and then it still jerks...No engine light or other symptoms really. MAF sensor? Fuel injectors? anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? Please just do not say the transmission, I struggled too much with it last year just to fail!!  LOL!!
Sorry this is a lot to read but I wanted to be sure to give all the details of what has been done to it already! Thank you for any help in advance!!

Unfortunately, I have never seen a Nissan CVT with a stepper motor code that didn't need a transmission.
Maybe someone else has had a different experience, but I strongly believe you will need to replace the transmission.

The code No longer comes up since I replaced the valve body. However, I put my origional rom that was on the old valve body I put it on the new one. Maybe this could be The issue? This is my desperate attempt to think of repairinganything but the entire transmission. LOL

In the ECM, monitor brake sw 1 and 2 while pressing the pedal. They should change state in opposite directions, at the same time. Check the connector for water intrusion. Also check the taillights for any moisture inside the housing.

I will check it out! Thank you. I took the MAF sensor out and cleaned it, the throttle body needs to come off to be cleaned because it has alot of black gunk in it. But I do have a slight improvement after cleaning the sensor.
