Hello all. I got a Suzuki in the shop with a cranking no start. Vehicle was in an accident, repaired, started and idled but transmission did not shift and Combination meter was blank. The shop/s before me tried to sort the issue with replacement cluster, ecm, key, harness etc till it ended up not being able to start with its dash gutted out.

After I cleaned the rat, not mouse, rat feces out of the bay I was able to start working.
1. Engine cranks
2. ECM ref voltage to CMP is 12v (FSM stated 4-5v). Will have to get to CKP (in hell) but wir reads 0v plugged in.
3. Powers and Grounds check good
4. ECM switches on the main power relay with out the ign wake up signal (relay buzzing)
5. CAN signals max out @ 1.5 with spikes KOEO
6. No CKP or CMP signals coming in.
7. 5v ref seen at other sensors
8. Combintion meter lights work , no CEL.
I believe a ground strap may be in the wrong place. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE: Went back and applied some logic. The system seemed to be operating "reverse" to how it should be acting. I turned out that Suzuki made the ECU plugs reversible and didn't label anything. Yes people, the ECM was plugged in backwards.
1. CMP shorted the Batt +ve internally
2. CKP signal good
3. CEL and anti-theft lights come on again
4. 5v ref good
5. Battery needs replacing. Will continue when replacement arrives.

Will keep you updated.

Holy crap! Way to go, Suzuki. :silly:

Really nice find, Caritech. I wonder how may more modules this could have had thrown at it before someone realized the issue?

Sorry for the delay. Car starts after discovering CMP was wired backward somehow. I decided to replace the engine harness due to tampering and/or damage, this got us to the point of the vehicle starting and actually revving. The cluster still showed no CEL, RPM, Immob. light, warning lights and Fuel level, this information is obtained through CAN (TCM-->ECM-->ABS-->BCM-->DLC and Cluster). Finally I discovered that if I flexed the ABS module the CEL etc would work but still no communication. The ABS was replaced but problem persisted. I took the weekend off the car to avoid burning the car to the ground and while on my 3rd beer that day I saw the weak link BCM. The previous shop had tried a new BCM so it was still in the car and when swapped the cluster came to life, allowing info outside the BCM's control to be displayed.

At this time:
No warning lights e.g. oil and charge (These come from the BCM)
No Communication (BCM function)
More BCM related screw ups

All powers, grounds, connectors etc will be checked again before I call the owner.
