2016 VW Tiguan 2.0 crank no start was created by Jaguarpaw
Hello I’m working on a 2016 VW Tiguan 2.0 gasoline engine. I had a code for the high pressure fuel pump and intake runner. I replaced the high pressure fuel pump I found it was leaking gasoline into the engine. Before it did not start it would take a while to start but it would start up every time even with the bad pump. I have changed the oil and checked for spark and checked compression it’s got 120 on all 4 cylinders. I have sprayed throttle body clean in the intake to see if it wants to start but nothing. It sounds like it has compression very rarely will it fire once or twice but it seems like it’s only the first time I try to crank. I cleared the codes after replacing the high pressure fuel pump and scanned for codes after but. I codes are showing up at this time.
i am lost never felt so lost lol

My first thought is that your cylinders are fuel washed, causing low compression and no spark.

When you did your compression and spark testing, how wet were the plugs? If they're wet, dry the cylinders and plugs out with compressed air. Replace the plugs if you're in doubt. Add a squirt of engine oil to each cylinder before putting the plugs in.

To stop the cylinders from washing out again, you can unplug the fuel injector sub-harness connector. It's on a harness bracket to the left of the throttle body. It'll look something like this:

You'll set a bunch of codes with that connector unplugged, but you can clear them after you get the cylinders dried out.

Crank the engine while working the gas pedal and see if you can get compression back. Have a battery charger or jump back connected as needed.

ok I cleaned the spark plugs and dried the cylinders disconnected the harness to the injectors. I then cranked the engine a few times and then sprayed some throttle cleaner the intake manifold and it would fire a few times but i noticed that it would shoot the fluid back out the intake. i thought it may have a clogged catalytic converter so i disconnected the o2 sensor off the exhaust manifold again but it made no difference. im thinking about doing a leak down test. what else can cause blow back through the intake? thanks for the input

performed leak down test and can hear air coming out of the intake on some and out the exhaust and oil dipstick on others. can timing be off and still have compression? I checked top dead center and then @ 180 degrees to make sure and it never seals right, if i go a little over it stars to seal better. i guess valves can be bent but I would think i wouldn't have uniformed compression of 120 on all cylinders.

Yes it’s back and running I took the cover off to check timing, and it was off. I replaced the Chain and tensioner and guides. It started right up.
