I have a L4 2.4 2002 Camry that ran fine until one morning when attempting to go to work. It turns over fine but won't start. Like fuel pump failure or spark failure.
I replaced fuel pump which was easy but didn't fix it. So then I pulled the Spark Plug Coils and found the cavities full of oil. I replaced valve cover gasket b/c it was leaking bad.
I'm unable to detect any spark. I didn't smell any burn on the coil packs and got similar readings on each one. See coil pic for pin # scheme I use in my readings here.
Each coil read about the same Ohms as what is here: Pin 1 = 7.2 M, Pin 2 = 7.2 Pin 3 = 3.4 and pin 4 = 7.2.
Am I checking the coils correctly? and how do I determine what is a valid reading? If they are good, would you steer me to the next item to check?
If the M stands for megohms and 3 out of the 4 pins truly are at 3ish and 7ish ohms then your coils would be bad. But with this kind of faults - IFGT, IGF circuits affected - you should have fault codes registered in the engine computer.
Make sure your resistance measurements are correct.
