2005 Saturn cue 2.2 no spark issues. was created by Sethjaycox79
Hey guys I have a question about my 05 Saturn cue 2.2. I am not getting spark. I have replaced the coil pack, the ignition module, and the crank sensor. I checked all fuses and were all ok, also I swapped out relays. No change at all, still won't start. I checked fuel pressure, but the only time that I can enguage the pump is to check the crank sensor wiring and pressure is good. When the car died was when I was driving and it just shut off with no warning or noises to let me know that there is something wrong. I'm at wits end with this car. I hate to keep throwing parts at it. Any help is welcomed. Thank you.

Hey Sethjaycox79! For our info, what kind of test equipment do you have to work with? Test light, DVOM?
If you're positive that you're not getting spark from ANY of the secondary towers on the coil pack, then I think the next step would be to check for injector pulse. An incandescent test light will work perfectly. Check out this video, at about 2:10:
Knowing if you're missing spark AND injection pulse would be good to know, as it could possibly indicate an input problem. If you find that there is injection pulse, then I'd suggest shifting your focus back to the ignition system.

Hey Tyler thank you for the reply. I have a test light and test pins. I do have power to the injectors and also pulses also. So I know that they have power. It seems like something is killing the fuel pump and spark. I plugged in all four spark plugs in and still no spark. But I hear the fuel pump kick on when I do test the wiring for the crank position sensor.

Nice, good to know about the injection pulse! I'm kinda surprised, to be honest.
It sure sounds like there's no crank signal input, and this engine uses a synthesized CMP signal based on coil firings. So, if there's no crank signal, and no CMP, then how is it pulsing the injectors? :silly: Not arguing with you! Just genuinely confused.
Just to be clear, you did a bypass test on the crank sensor wiring? As in, you connected the test light to B+ and tapped on the signal wire? And the fuel pump does NOT run during cranking, only when you're doing the bypass test?

Correct, so the weird thing is that I do have signal and power to the coils and I can control the fuel pump but still something is preventing it to start. There is 4 or 5 pins going out of the ignition module and 2 of the pins have signal and 0ne or two give power and also a ground. This is so frustrating lol. Yes I was able to bypass the crank sensor.

Sweet, I was just going to suggest testing power and ground at the ICM.
Power at the pink wire, ground at the black/white?
Is the PCM accessible on this Vue? My next thought is to use your DVOM to check for crank sensor signal at the PCM. We know that the PCM can respond based on the bypass test, and that the wiring is likely good, but I'm still interested in knowing if the signal is strong, and making it all the way to the PCM itself.
Pins 1 and 2 of connector 2 are the crank sensor wires, purple and yellow. Connect your meter across both pins and set it to AC voltage. I think at least 500mV during cranking would be a good reading.
