Help us help you. By posting the year, make, model and engine near the beginning of your help request, followed by the symptoms (no start, high idle, misfire etc.) Along with any prevalent Diagnostic Trouble Codes, aka DTCs, other forum members will be able to help you get to a solution more quickly and easily!
SYMPTOM: Every once in a while the vehicle takes about 2-3 seconds longer to crank than it normally does.
VERIFIED CONCERN: Engine can be hot / or cold/ does not seem to matter. Occasionally it will take longer to start , over the course of 8 hours was able to get it to occur 5 times.
Vehicle came from another shop. They replaced the starter, positive and negative cables, alternator, ignition coils, plugs, wires. The customer states that they had to replace the starter twice(unknown reason).
Work performed this visit: inspected positive and negative cable for tightness. Performed battery test and passed, alternator test passed, starter test passed. (autel battery tester). Measured available voltage after vehicle sat overnight and measured 12.6V. Scanned for fault codes and fault p0520 oil pressure sensor. cleared fault and did not return. no other fault codes stored in vehicle.
looking for next steps to diagnose this intermittent issue. any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE:Replaced the starter motor as a guess, during its replacement disconnected the negative battery cable. Installed new starter and the slow crank re-occurred. Found that if I disconnect the Negative battery cable for about 60 seconds and reconnect the cable I can re-produce the symptom of long crank almost every time. Cleaned battery terminals and installed new negative cable terminal. Still long cranks. I have in question maybe the battery or the battery current sensor located on the negative cable. What comes to mind is by disconnecting the neg cable it creates a capacitive discharge and when cranking takes longer until I crank the engine about 5 times consecutively it no longer long cranks.
PLEASE HELP ! STILL LOOKING FOR DIAG ASSISTANCE OR A DIRECTION TO GO WITH THIS ASAP
