03 saturn cranks but won't start! was created by Pimpazmiguel
Hello everyone. So i have a 02 saturn that cranks but won't start. I've replaced the crank sensor , spark plugs and fuel filter and still no luck. I can hear the fuel pump turn on and there is fuel pressure in the lines. So I've tested the icm with the test light just like scannedanner does on his youtube video with a vehicle with the same problem. Only the two pins on mines do light up. Meaning its good right? So im stuck now and have no idea what it could be. Any suggestions? Thanks..

Have you checked for spark? Or injection pulse?

I cant get to the coils since the housing is all integrated. Do you know how i can check for spark? I will check for pulse, thanks.

Is this the 2.2 ecotec motor? If so remove the upper cover/coil module housing and put your old set of plugs in the coil boots and let them rest on the head while someone cranks it look for spark on all 4 plugs (there are 2 coils you need to know if you have spark on both) this can be done 1 plug at a time and move it to another boot each time if necessary . If you remove plug from cylinder be sure to disable fuel to keep from starting a fire!

Thanks for getting back to us! I see that you found fuel pressure in the lines, but it may not be enough pressure to start the engine. A fuel pressure gauge on the rail would be the way to verify.
Do this: Try adding carb cleaner to the intake during cranking and see if the engine tries to start. If it starts and dies, then we can go after a fuel supply issue. If adding the carb clean doesn't change anything, then we go in another direction.
Another possibility is a timing problem. Verifying timing marks on these engines is not very straightforward, so your best bet is to use other indirect tests. Cranking compression would be a good place to start, as would a vacuum gauge on the intake. Abnormally high compression (>180 PSI), in particular, would point directly towards a timing problem.
