I have seen three of these with central locking faults, always the same fault one door locks with the remote but won't unlock with the remote, if that is the problem it is a mechanical fault with the latch. New latch required, no way round it.

The normal mode operation is a single press of the unlock button only unlocks the drivers door, to fully unlock the remaining three doors requires a second press. The unlock function wiring is separate for each door. and has various options is configured in the BCU -- so it is either there is a BCU problem or unlikely as it may seem faulty door latches. From experience of BMW and also multiple failures on MG-Rover which used the complete BMW BCU and security systems although the GM5 BCU can give problems I would investigate the latches first.

BMW latches are double locked , a single press of the fob button fully unlocks the drivers door and takes the remaing doors out of double lock but they remain single locked, the second press of the button fully unlocks all doors.
I would nomally lock the car and listen closely to each door as the unlock button is pushed if the latch actuator has a mechanical fault it will still still make a noise but much quiter than the solid "thunk" sound from a working latch.

Is the the boot unlocking from the interior button ? Using the BMW remote boot unlocking requires the unlock button to be held in for about 2 seconds. Remote boot remote boot opening depends on trim level, generally a key lock in the boot suggests it may not have this option.

Now I understand the car is in double lock from the key fob that I suspect points to a key fob problem with the unlock switch on the fob. The system is designed so that when double locked the 3 passenger doors can only be unlocked from the fob, pushing interior button or pulling the interior handles twice won't double unlock it. Most BMW keys of this age have a tiny red LED tell tale if the remote is working it should light up when the unlock button is pressed. Even if it is open up the key fob fit a new battery and examine the switches on the circuit board usually after 12 years use you will probably find they in a very bad state ---if this is the case the official BMW line is you need to buy a new fob and then get it introduced into the cars memory but I have had a couple repaired by electronics guys.

The interior buttons or manual key won't put the car into double lock or double unlock it --- only pressing the lock button on the fob will it double lock or double unlock the passenger doors the drivers door however will unlock and double unlock the drivers door.

The double lock and single lock are separate actuators within each latch have seperate wires for each function going back to the BCU. After the double lock actuator is unlocked for each door the doors can then be unlocked from the inside by either the push button or a double pull on the interior handle.
3 of the 6 wires at each latch are used for the lock actuators: Lock, Double lock and Common.

i had a problem with a 2000 BMW 328i a few months back where the customer has only the spare key with no remote and when i was trying to unlock the doors with the key it only unlock the driver side door, even when i turned the key few time and hold it in unlock position.
The other symptom it had was every time you press the unlock button in the center console it did not unlock or lock any door, i even tried to open the passenger door by the interior door handle. the only door that opened manually from inside was the driver..
and the problem was the driver side door latch.
the CENTRAL MODULE CONTROL UNIT was not sending power to the switch either

Thats they way they are designed to work --- with unlock activation from the key push button the doors will remain dead bolt locked even from the inside. There is supposed to be an emergency overide method from the inside but I have never seen it work. The drivers door can be opened with the key but there is no way to open the other doors by normal methods.

If you own a BMW look after your spare key and change the keys over frequently to even out the wear and tear on the buttons and battery. If the plastic part of the key wears eBay seller can supply a replacement plastic shell.

I made a research and found that a common issue is that a relay on the gm5 module that's how the call it it's not functional ,I all ready check voltage on the looks button and there's no power, and I don't know if the button sends power to the module and then goes to the door locks or if it's backwards?
