Can I call this ECU was created by AlexM
Ok, I'm calling my first computer completely only my own. I'm second guessing myself, of course!
Help. Can I call this computer.
Mitsubishi 2000
1.8lt Wasted Spark, 2 coil.
Condition: Crank, No Start, No Spark
What i've done:
1. Crank and Cam signal check (pull down system, 5v from computer)
0v-5v Signal is registering at computer for CKS & CMS, confirmed with DVOM,
Fuel pump is being activated by computer on signal switching.
2. Injectors firing Ok when crank is turned
3. Coil Pack (2 coils) powers and Grounds OK
4. Computer Powers and Grounds OK
5. Coil Trigger signal from computer is missing, fixed low.
6. Coils fire ok if signal is introduced manually: test light to batt +, touched on signal wire
7. Coil harness and computer disconnected: no shorts to ground (or power for that matter) on both trigger wires
8. Coil harness only disconnected: dead short to ground through ECU on one coil trigger wire; 65 Ohms on other trigger wire.
Immobiliser dash light not on (ie Immobiliser off)
Is there any condition that could cause the computer to switch off trigger signal to coils??
Anything else I should check??
Sweating over here.

have you got injection pulse? have you checked fuel pressure?
when you turn the ignition on do you get the check engine light on for a couple of seconds? does the scan tool communicate with the the ecu?

Injection pulse = Yes
Check engine Light = Yes on for a few seconds when ignition turned on.
Fuel pressure = haven't checked since there's no spark but can hear the fuel pump operate on crank (yes it's possible there's a faulty pump, but this wouldn't cut spark?)
Carmen scan tool not communicating with ECU ( I question its reliability. Will try with a newer tool for codes)

Sure doesn't sound good for the ECU.
I think the difference in resistances on the coil control wires is interesting... If you do replace this computer, perhaps do the coils, too?
Like Alpha, I'd be interested to know about codes and PCM communication before pulling the trigger.
This Premium video is worth mentioning, too. Not that it'll help in your diag, just has a similar ignition system with similar symptoms.

Are you 100% sure that your Mitsubishi doesn't have ignition module ??
Think at around 2000's and for some years later and before, some Mitsubishi's, Huyndai's and Kia's etc ... had ignition module to control
the spark signal to fire up the coils.
To be 100% sure, you need to search by engine code number, engine capacity, model year etc,
and do some test there !!
Anyway let us know what you find
