Cranks, No-start mainly when hot was created by my76olds
Hello!
I am new to this forum and this may be above my understanding of all things automotive! But, I love to learn!
I have a 2002 Olds Alero with a 3.4L engine with 135K miles.
It cranks but has a no-start mainly when hot.
Has spark, fuel pressure is at 55 psi, and appears to have no injector pulse when in a no-start condition.
No codes
Runs beautifully when it starts.
This was an intermittent problem that is getting worse.
I use to be able to drive it back and forth to work and it would always start in the morning and after work. If I were to stop after work at a store, it wouldn't always start unless I would let it cool off for a while. Sometimes 10 minutes would do the trick and other times I would need to wait longer.
We had a day that was in the 90s and it didn't start that day after work but it started in the morning. I don't trust driving it.
I don't want to start throwing parts at it! As ScannerDanner says "Don't be a parts changer!"
I put some gas down the throttle body and I thought that it was the fix for this no-start condition, but it doesn't always work. When in this state, I looked for an injector pulse and didn't see it. But, I was only checking this with a probe. When the car was running, I looked at the injector pulse and the bulb would only light up when I increased the RPMs. Otherwise, it was hardly noticeable.
Any ideas?
