2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5T

I have a 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5T and someone attempted to steal it. Their attempt to program their key to the system was unsuccessful but it caused my original key to not work. I got someone to check the entire system and they told me to buy a new key fob so it can be reprogrammed to the car. I did, but when they attempted to program the new key to the car it gave an error message "Unable to register key". The person tried to reprogram my original key and it gave the same error.

Is buying and replacing the BCM the solution to the problem? And if not, what do you suggest my next step should be?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
