Very common to have slow leak in a/c system (way more common than large easy to find leak)

Happens all the time. Like Ben said, small leaks in an A/C system are common and might only leak under specific conditions. For example, many refrigerant leak detectors will accurately detect a leak of around .25oz/year, but some leaks can be much smaller than that.
