I think it will need a full adaptation with a vag com before it's said and done but communication is a must. check out www.ross-tech.com/ they have allot of information on there they may have the tests to figure out no com on your vehicle if not I'll see what I can find is there American golf the same as the 1 you have in England? Obd2?

Hello

I've checked the OBD2 socket, it has K-line and CAN.
K-line Key OFF = 3.4v, Key ON = 11.4v.
CAN has no resistance and no voltage on high and low.

checked CAN at ECU, 60ohms, unplugged large connector.
unplugged ABS system to check the connector for damage.

Plugged the two connectors back in and checked ODB2 CAN for resistance but still nothing. Then tried for a start, the car started and ran fine. Connected Diagnostics computer and it worked with all modules.

Now did we disturb something or start a setup procedure. Did the above with the battery connected. I would love to know what made it start.

Now on to the actual reported fault of the car stalling after about 20 minutes of driving and then won't start for about half an hour.

Lol that's a vw for ya sometimes disconnecting the battery fixes module problems
