Daughter’s Aura throwing P0455. I think it’s a bad purge solenoid, replaced it, but getting same results.
My diagnosis: (Exact same result with original and new solenoid)
Commanded vent closed. Fuel tank pressure rises. Open vent, pressure drops.
Purge and Seal: sealed system, fuel tank pressure rises. Commanded up to 100% purge. Pressure continues to rise.
Turned car off. Removed purge solenoid. Purge solenoid commanded to 0%. Tried to manually blow air through but couldn’t. Commanded purge to higher %, air flows and clicking sound heard. Checked purge line from solenoid to canister, clear.
Removed solenoid and put pressure gauge on intake port of engine in place of solenoid. Turned on car. Vacuum about 18 PSIG.
Put solenoid back in, turned on car and commanded purge from 10% to 100%. No clicking. Hooked up voltmeter to solenoid. Voltage is present and adjusts with commanding higher %. About 1 V per 10%. Still, no clicking or vacuum on solenoid.
If I pull the solenoid out while car is running and put it back in, the solenoid develops full vacuum but doesn’t adjust.
I’m lost! Did I get a bad “new” solenoid (Duralast)? It sounds like the solenoid is not strong enough to open when commanded and experiencing vacuum. Headache…pain…must…get….help…..
