95 Pontiac Transport SE over acceleration on start up
I'm working on a 95 Pontiac Transport SE. I think this is a 3.1 v6. It's not mine, but I am helping a friend. When it's starts up the engine and tach immediately red line and engine revs to full throttle without touching the pedal. I had put in a new battery, which was not related to the problem, and a part store manager told be to disconnect the neg wire from the battery for at least 10 minutes, then try. I did this the first time for the whole ten minutes, no change, then I tried again, but not for the full ten minutes, but still no change. I was told to look at the throttle position sensor next. I haven't tested it yet but if anyone has experienced this issue before and was able to fix it, let me know. Thanks.
Being this is an old vehicle with a throttle cable, I would first pull the intake boot and look to see if the throttle body is jammed open, and if so inspect the cable and linkage.
