Crank no start low 5v reference was created by Eclectic2023
Greetings. I have a crank no start/spark on a 2005 Chevy Zafira 1.8. Checked reference voltsge on the ignition coil plug and get 3 volts. Around the same on other sensors. There is a short detected (test light lights on negative terminal. Fuses seem fine. If anyone can get an accurate wiring diagram of sensors and ECU pinout or advice(since most that I found are different)is appreciated.

why would you have a "reference voltage" on a coil ?

Exactly what are you testing and why ?

A coil should have 12v power, ground and an ecu trigger. Or just 12v power and a ground trigger depending on type of coil.

I've never heard of a coil having a 5v reference voltage.

Thank you on responding. 5v reference on the coil connecter. 5 wires. The 4 that go to the coil (new coil)show around 3 volts. No spark (tested by cranking and a test light). If the ECU was the culprit would it not show any volts from the connecter? Does it have to have the 5 volts to spark? The other sensors (cam and maf) are also low voltage. A code said immobilizer. Immobilizer would not give that 3 volts or any? Any advice to test? Thank you.

I have never seen a coil that needed a 5v ref circuit. ( they may be out there, but I have not seen one. Would be curious as to why it would need this. )

So are you getting an ecu trigger to each coil ?
Are you getting any signal to each injector ?

ie, this might give an idea that crank/cam is good

Battery voltage black wire at the coil connecter. The other 4 wires are 2.2 volts. The ECU culprit? 2.2 volts low to get spark? Thank you.

And I will repeat again..

So are you getting an ecu trigger to each coil ?
Are you getting any signal to each injector ?

Yes.The 2 wires at the injector connecter. Around battery voltage at one of the injector wire connector and around 1.3 volts at the second. Is that too low to get spark? Thank you.

you have zero understanding of how any of this works ?

And how to test ?

Some basics.

Yes those tests I did from the video. I'm getting 2 volts from each wire on the coil connecter (new coil). I want to know if it has to have 5 volts to spark? or the ECU is probably at fault.

Why are you obsessed with a 5v ref, when the coil will not have a 5v ref ?

So I repeat yet again.

So are you getting an ecu trigger to each coil ?
Are you getting any signal to each injector ?

Show your scope traces of these tests. If you're pissing about with a multimeter trying to find something, you are wasting everyone's time.

Do you even have any spark at all ?

I just explained that I did. Redundant.
