Definitely got a good case study here. 2009 subaru legacy 2.5i. Idles great in park and neutral but in reverse or drive it occasionally stalls. Last night was so bad I was just able to barely hit the throttle causing it to die out every time in drive/reverse. Runs great just cruising around. Another red flag is around 5k rpm it falls flat on its face with the tach slightly fluctuating and then causing the check engine light to flash for all 4 cylinders misfiring. In neutral it goes up to 6k easily. The data to me seems all systems are good but not sure what is considered acceptable for a newer subaru. So far I've tried:

Disconnected the maf - no change
Disconnected upstream o2 - no change
Disconnected MAP - engine stalls even in park if I don't give it slight throttle.
Cleaned throttle body - no change
Owner put new plug wires on it - no change

I'm kinda leaning towards a clogged catalytic converter. I'm going to try to hook up a pressure Guage to it to see if I get any reading greater than 0 really. I remember having a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder that also fell on its face due to a plugged cat.

If anyone has any other input/ideas or might think the same as me please chime in. I can also give you whatever data info you would want.
