I have a 2000 f150, 4.2 v6 automatic rear wheel drive. This truck has no engine related codes, the abs light is on, haven't pulled that code yet. It has a little bit of a weird instrument cluster thing going on. If you go to start it like a normal vehicle it will turn over but not crank. When you let off of the key the gauges will sweep all of the way to their max, pause then go back to normal. Then it will start no problem. If you turn the key on and wait for the gauges to sweep it will start with no problem. But if you do not wait then it will turn over but not crank. Once started it runs perfectly. By coincidence I happen to have another f150 same year and same motor different transmission, that does not have this gauge sweep problem. I am at a loss for what could be the cause or where to even start. Does anyone have a clue?

Were there any modifications to the truck, e.g. alarm system, remote start, ....? Is it completely stock?

Hi..
My first check would be the ignition switch. I would test the switch and the wires in the column.
Test to see if the switch is indeed working each circuit. Also check your relays.
Good luck
