The Le Mans race was held on public roads --I think some of the track still is, The track was only closed for the race and official test and practice week ends, the film was probably made on week day. ---- crazy I loved the bit where the guy on the bike was crossing the road and changed his mind halfway across.

This Youtube video is how the track looks now a few changes similar Jag -- the driver passes the smaller cars like they are standing still but then a Ford GT40 passes the Jag like an F15 on full reheat..
